history of Crime stoppers
The first Crime Stoppers program was born on September 8, 1976 in New Mexico. Crime Stoppers was the brainchild of a young Albuquerque detective who was concerned by the number of unsolved cases he and fellow detectives were working, and was particularly frustrated that all possible leads had been exhausted regarding the murder of a young college student. Concho Valley Crime Stoppers was originally founded as Crime Stoppers of San Angelo, Inc in 1981. In recent years as we have expanded into numerous surrounding counties. Due to the expansion, in 2022 we formally changed our name to Concho Valley Crime Stoppers to be inclusive of the larger area that we serve.
